Eastwood and Rankins Road Reserve park expansion concept plan update

April 17, 2014

The City of Melbourne wishes to thank everyone who made a submission and provided feedback regarding the Eastwood and Rankins Road Reserve park expansion concept plan.

We have reviewed all the community consultation feedback received. The majority of submissions are in support of the proposal however there are some concerns by local residents about traffic, parking and amenity impacts in Rankins Road. We have also held further discussions with Metro Trains, undertaken some sub-surface investigations and additional traffic counts in the area.

The concept plan for Eastwood and Rankins Road Reserve park expansion was revised in consideration of the community feedback received and the information obtained from further investigations into issues raised during the consultation.

On 10 June 2014, the community consultation outcomes and the revised plan was presented to the Future Melbourne Committee (FMC). After considering submissions about the open space proposal, the FMC resolved to proceed to a road discontinuance process in order to create public open space. View the Council officers report with the revised concept plan and the Future Melbourne Committee meeting minutes.

The proposal to create Eastwood and Rankins Road Reserve park expansion proposal will now be subject to a public notice process on the proposed discontinuance of portions of Eastwood Street and Rankins Road, Kensington in order to create public open space. This will occur in the later part of 2014.
