Breathe easy in the city education campaign

October 1, 2015

The City of Melbourne is proud to be creating healthy environments for people to live, learn, work and play. From 1 October, QV Melbourne, Goldsbrough Lane and City Square will be smoke-free. A daytime only ban applies in City Square, 6am – 8pm. These areas join four existing smoke-free laneways; The Causeway, Howey Place, Block Place and Equitable Place.

Community feedback has shown that the majority of people support smoke-free areas and would choose to visit these areas more. However, many people aren’t aware of where these great areas are. Smoke-free areas are not only family-friendly but also provide opportunities to breathe easy while dining, shopping and relaxing.

To raise awareness of these great smoke-free environments and encourage visitation, a public education campaign is planned for Monday 5 to Saturday 10 October. The campaign will be launched by Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and Dr Sarah White, Quit Victoria, on Monday 5 October at 11.30am in City Square. Everyone is welcome to attend. The launch will be followed by roaming performers spreading the smoke-free message across the city. Look out for the cruiser bike on Monday lunchtime cruising along Swanston Street.
