You can now breathe easy in Howey Place, Block Place and Equitable Place

March 23, 2015

The results from the smoke-free areas community engagement on Howey Place, Block Place and Equitable Place were presented to Council on Tuesday 10 March 2015. The community engagement report (PDF, 4.8 MB) showed that the majority of businesses, patrons and the general community supported smoking bans in each laneway.

After carefully considering all feedback, Council voted to endorse the proposal which means that smoking will be permanently banned in these laneways under the Activities Local Law 2009 (Local Law) from 1 April 2015.

The City of Melbourne will continue to consider new areas to become smoke-free in the coming months.
