Thank you for providing feedback on the Waste Collection Zones proposal. On 7 June 2016, the Future Melbourne Committee approved the introduction of a funding model for the garbage compactor service.

From 1 October 2016, businesses will pay a fee based on the number of times they use the garbage compactors. There will be no charge to residents or small businesses with minimal amounts of rubbish that would otherwise use the weekly garbage collection provided to rateable properties. By introducing a fee-paying model for the use of compactors, we aim to ensure their long-term operation and we will continue to reduce the environmental problems arising from the collection and on-street storage of waste bins.
