Overview of Fishermans Bend

Fishermans Bend is a 480 hectare urban renewal area consisting of five precincts across the City of Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip. The two precincts to the north of the Westgate Freeway are in the City of Melbourne - the Employment Precinct to the west of the Bolte Bridge, and Lorimer to the east.

The Employment Precinct is already recognised for innovation and manufacturing and is home to Boeing, the Department of Defence, and Bega Foods. The University of Melbourne is planning to establish a world leading engineering school in the area - which will be a catalyst for further change.

Both precincts are currently dominated by industry and warehousing, with very few residents. However, by 2050, Lorimer will become a high density neighbourhood home to 12,000 residents and 6,000 workers, while the Employment Precinct will provide jobs for approximately 40,000 people, with a focus on advanced manufacturing.

Other key features of the area include the neighbouring Port of Melbourne, Kart Raceway and Westgate Park.
