The City of Melbourne has developed a Transport Strategy 2030 to guide the future of transport in the city.

By 2036, the number of people moving around our municipality each day will increase to 1.4 million. We need to make sure our growing population can move around the city safely and efficiently.

The strategy outlines the City of Melbourne's transport vision and policy directions for the next 10 years and is committed to:

  • creating iconic civic destinations around our city stations that reflect their importance as gateways to the city
  • ensuring generous, unobstructed, high quality space for walking
  • transforming the city's 'Little streets' into people-focused places linking Melbourne's much loved laneways and supporting hospitality and retail businesses.

The strategy was informed by extensive community input and research that took place over two phases from 2018 to 2019.

The final Transport Strategy 2030 was endorsed by Council in October 2019.
