Jobs hub of the future: plan for Arden growth area launched

September 1, 2016

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle today joined the Victorian Minister for Planning, Richard Wynne, Minister for Public Transport and Major Projects, Jacinta Allan, and Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) Chief Executive, Peter Seamer, to launch the Draft Arden Vision & Framework 2016.

The document continues the strategic vision of the Arden-Macaulay Structure Plan 2012 and complements the Metro Tunnel project in planning for the Arden station. The document will also create a platform for an informed conversation with the community and potential investors.

All stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to have their say on the Draft Arden Vision & Framework 2016 via the Shape Victoria website.

On Tuesday 30 August, Council endorsed Planning Scheme Amendment C190 Arden-Macaulay which will implement the land use and development controls recommended in the Macaulay area, north of the Arden Vision area in the 2012 Arden-Macaulay Structure Plan.

Amendment C190 will shortly be submitted to the Minister for Planning seeking approval, as will a request for a Ministerial Amendment under section 20(4) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 which will introduce a suitable interim development contributions control over the area affected by Amendment C190. Melbourne City Council has also requested that the State Government identify and secure open space along the Moonee Ponds Creek corridor for future recreational purposes, in line with the Arden-Macaulay Structure Plan 2012.

The City of Melbourne has established this online portal for Arden-Macaulay projects which will contain all information and documentation relevant to this important growth area.
