October 18, 2018

Thanks again to everyone who provided feedback on the Birrarung Marr Master Plan.

Some of the key learnings and recommendations captured in this process include:

  • What people love about Birrarung Marr: The characteristics most valued were its greenery and connection to nature, peace and quiet, as well as vistas to the river and city skyline.
  • Most visited areas: The most popular places to visit are the Riverside Promenade (68 responses), Lower Terrace (64 responses) and the Main Entry (48 responses) at Federation Square.
  • Favourite areas: The Riverside Promenade was overwhelmingly the favourite area with nearly 50 per cent of participants nominating this space (48 responses). The Upper Terrace (15 responses) and Lower Terraces (11 responses) came in second and third.
  • Participant recommendations: Participants most wanted to see changes made to the Lower Terrace, including upgrades to the compacted gravel and segregated bike and pedestrian paths. More planting and biodiversity, improved access, connectivity and wayfinding, improved public amenity and improved events management were also suggested by participants.
