Weather station installed at Birrarung Marr

June 8, 2023

Can you spot our latest sensor?

Birrarung Marr’s weather station collects important environmental data including air quality, temperature, humidity levels, wind speed, air pressure and noise levels.

This new sensor, a IMS305 Industrial Meteorological Station has been added high on a pole across from the Art Play building.

The data collected from this sensor will help us identify trends and patterns about when people are using the park the most. We will be able to learn how factors like air quality or temperature affect people’s activities here. We will use this data as we explore future improvements at Birrarung Marr and how we maintain this spiritually and culturally significant place.

We also added a third pedestrian counting sensor to the park near Batman Avenue to understand more about pedestrian activity in the park.
