About the program

It has been over 5 years since the first Gardens for Wildlife visit to a property in the City of Melbourne and now it is time for a review! Feedback received will inform continuous improvement to the program to ensure we maximize the potential benefits for participants and biodiversity in the city.

The Gardens for Wildlife Melbourne program supports the community to use their gardens to provide an area of habitat for local wildlife. Whether you have a small balcony or a large garden, every space helps provide important stepping stones for native butterflies and insects, birds and other animals to move safely across our highly urbanised landscape.

We want to encourage everyone to create a space in their garden for wildlife, providing a habitat with Indigenous plants or suitable alternatives. Because each space, no matter how small or big, can make an important contribution to nature in our city.
