The City of Melbourne is working in partnership with the Victorian Government on the planning, design and delivery of urban renewal in Fishermans Bend. This includes the Employment Precinct, which will be home to 40,000 workers and the Victorian Government owned former GMH (General Motors Holden) Site, which will be a catalyst for the area’s transformation into a centre for innovation in advanced manufacturing, engineering and design.

As part of the $2.7b Building Works package announced by the Victorian Government in May 2020, the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) has partnered with the City of Melbourne to deliver early works on Turner Street in a project called “Gateway to GMH”.

Gateway to GMH will be the first step in Turner Street’s transformation into a key multi-modal movement corridor from the former GMH site through to the City and other innovation precincts.

The project will be used as an opportunity to showcase innovation, from the materials used in the construction of the bike path to the trial of different species of plants. This project is a trial project for the future Employment Precinct, and is a unique opportunity to do things a little differently and honour the legacy of innovation and creativity in Fishermans Bend.
