City of Melbourne is upgrading JJ Holland Park to improve sport and recreation opportunities for the Kensington community. The project includes new LED sports lighting on Oval 2 and two new LED scoreboards on Oval 1 and the synthetic pitch. This project is supported by the Victorian Government.

These upgrades will allow greater use of the park at night and during winter, supporting increased participation by local sports clubs and community groups.

Works are expected to start in late May and be completed by August 2026.

JJ Holland Park has three sports fields (Oval 1, Oval 2 and the synthetic pitch) which experience high levels of use.

When we asked the community what they thought between December 2024 and January 2025, 97% of people supported the project. We’ve also heard through neighbourhood surveys just how important local spaces for sport, play and recreation are in Kensington, and many participants have told us they’d like to see improvements at JJ Holland Park.

The installation of a LED scoreboard on Oval 1 and new 150 Lux LED sports lighting are being delivered by City of Melbourne in partnership with the Victorian Government through the Community Support Fund.

The installation of a new LED scoreboard on the synthetic pitch is being delivered by City of Melbourne in partnership with the Victorian Government.
