Melbourne is Australia’s largest and fastest growing city, recognised globally as a centre of creative thinking and ideas. The Melbourne Advantage: Economic Strategy 2030 positions the city as a leading environment for business growth and a highly competitive destination for investment and high-value jobs. 

To support delivery of this strategy, City of Melbourne has established the Melbourne Innovation and Investment Advisory Board and is seeking senior leaders to join this initiative.

The Board will provide oversight and strategic guidance on implementing The Melbourne Advantage’s Strategic Pillars which shape Melbourne’s economic and industry landscape.

We are seeking members with extensive expertise in investment, innovation leadership, commercial strategy or precinct transformation. Candidates will bring strong networks, strategic insight and a commitment to supporting Melbourne’s long-term economic resilience and global competitiveness. 

This Board will bring together influential and forward-thinking figures from business, industry and government to strengthen Melbourne’s investment pipeline, accelerate innovation, attract global talent, enhance the city’s competitive position and drive prosperity. The Board will provide oversight and strategic guidance on implementing The Melbourne Advantage’s key pillars, and will advise on major proposals, programs and initiatives that shape Melbourne’s economic and industry landscape. 

Members are expected to attend approximately 4 board meetings per year in person at Melbourne Town Hall.

Please note that board member positions are unremunerated.

  • Economic development experience aligned to the Economic Development Strategy’s Strategic Pillars.
    • Up to 6 external representatives with industry expertise and experience in the first 3 of the strategy’s 5 Pillars.
      • Strategic Pillar 1: Melbourne is a global powerhouse of innovation.
      • Strategic Pillar 2: Melbourne is a magnet for the world’s brightest minds and best enterprises.
      • Strategic Pillar 3: Melbourne is alive with energy
    • One external representative with industry expertise and experience for Pillars 4 and 5.
      • Strategic Pillar 4: Melbourne’s competitiveness.
      • Strategic Pillar 5: Melbourne’s livability.
  • Teamwork, relationship building and the ability to leverage networks.
  • Experience in a government advisory board is preferred, but not essential.
