This year we invited innovators, entrepreneurs, businesses, students and the community to come up with innovative solutions that will accelerate Melbourne's transition to a zero-carbon city.

After six weeks of exploring how to use data and technology to make Melbourne a more sustainable city, the finalists are ready to present their best ideas at the Open Innovation Competition pitch showcase.

5pm for a 5.30pm start, until 8pm

Venue: StartSpace, State Library Victoria, 328 Swanston Street Melbourne.

Winners will be announced on the night with a number of exciting prizes up for grabs including a slice of the $30,000 cash prize pool, entry into the University of Melbourne’s Velocity Program, RMIT’s LaunchHub program and Illume Foundation program, Stone & Chalk membership prize, StartSpace membership prize, Antler mentoring prize and Startup Network membership prize.

Each pitch will be subjected to live Q&A by a panel of experts and prizes were awarded by our wonderful competition partners.

The event will conclude with a networking session over refreshments.

  • Vigneswaran Appia

    CForge

    CForge is a pioneering startup tackling climate change by transforming food, agricultural, and green waste into valuable products like diamonds while capturing carbon dioxide and returning nutrients to the soil. This innovative process makes carbon capture profitable, creating a strong incentive to fight global warming. CForge leverages innovation to create sustainable solutions for greenhouse gas emissions and paves the way for a thriving green industry based on a circular economy.

  • Robert de Burgh-Day

    Brightspace

    Brightspace is a tech company specializing in creating scalable ecosystems for improving air quality and energy efficiency within buildings. Their core products include wireless Edge-Ai sensors, autonomous filtration and smart systems that dynamically manage air quality and energy use, optimising comfort and reducing operational costs. The problem they are trying to solve: reduce energy consumption of HVAC systems in buildings and make indoor environments better.

  • David Hauser

    ELIoT Energy

    ELIoT Energy installs plug-and-play energy storage batteries for high-use appliances such as display fridges in retail and hospitality in populated areas like inner cities where there is limited space for utility-size storage. Using unique algorithms, users can store power during the day when it's cheaper and more renewable due to solar output reducing reliance on non-renewable energy at night and cutting bills by 20-40% annually. The device is also fully recyclable.

  • Andrew Hayim De Vries and Xuan Wang

    WastePlant Consulting

    Gardenship is a modular, multi-use space that composts food waste, grows food, and hosts events. It creates regenerative urban spaces that save money, generate revenue, and provide educational opportunities. Gardenship empowers collective climate action for businesses, residents, and visitors, enhances community cohesion, reduces climate change impact, provides nutrients for urban forests, and supports food growth in a changing climate.

  • Evangeline Leong and Joel Wong

    AIRNERGY

    AIRNERGY aims to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gases directly from the air. Our renewable-powered technology adapts existing building infrastructure to drive decarbonization. This modular, energy-efficient, and toxicity-free solution also enhances the carbon circular economy by supplying sustainably sourced carbon dioxide to various industries, acting as a catalyst for net-zero goals.

  • Carmen Yuen and Caleb Coffey

    Amped

    Amped is an online subscription platform where users book micro mobility or other EV needs from local suppliers using in-app credits. Whether it's an e-bike, a Lime, or a Tesla, Amped offers affordable flexibility and builds a community of new electric micro mobility users. It also helps suppliers scale. Amped provides a seamless experience with smart features, within an integrated ecosystem to drive EV adoption, making sustainable living accessible, one journey at a time.
