Royal Park Transport Discussion Paper released

September 12, 2019

The Royal Park Transport Discussion Paper has been released. It is a consultant’s report to Council that suggests ways to achieve positive outcomes for parkland and transport in future planning for Royal Park.

We asked the transport planning consultancy, Phillip Boyle and Associates, to gather and analyse data, evidence and stakeholder input to formulate recommendations on the future of transport in Royal Park. These recommendations will be considered alongside other background research in the development of the future Royal Park Master Plan.

The Royal Park Transport Discussion Paper recommends that Council seeks to achieve the following two goals in its transport planning of Royal Park:

  1. Positive outcomes for parkland: protecting the current parkland from transport, recovering land lost to transport and expanding the area of the park.
  2. Positive outcomes for transport: increasing the number of people who visit Royal Park.

These goals are consistent with past Royal Park Master Plans.

The Royal Park Transport Discussion Paper has given us creative ideas for ways to meet the above two goals that we will consider and engage further upon when we develop the future Royal Park Master Plan. The paper does not represent an endorsed Council position.
