Climate and food security: implications and actions for Melbourne

City of Melbourne and United Nations Association of Australia (Victoria) are proud to be partnering to deliver a Climate and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) event series in 2026.

Join us for the first event which brings together film, storytelling, and expert insights to highlight one of the most urgent challenges facing our city: the intertwined impacts of climate change and food insecurity.

The event features an exclusive screening of Hidden Hunger, an international award‑winning short film by Melburnian director Orit Novak, which spotlights East Africa’s invisible malnutrition crisis and the innovative community-led solutions making a difference.

Following the film, a panel of experts will explore how climate change is already disrupting food production, supply chains, prices and nutrition, and what this means for Melbourne, where 47% of residents have reported food insecurity.

This is a chance to dive into how we can build climate‑resilient, equitable, and nutritious food systems—from our regional food bowl through to the urban communities who rely on it.

If you’re passionate about climate action, urban resilience, nutrition, or social justice, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

This event forms part of the United Nations Association of Australia (Victoria) and City of Melbourne’s 2026 Climate and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) event series. Stay tuned for more events to come over the year.
