Future Melbourne 2026 is a community collaboration project to develop a long-term strategic plan for the city.

Timeline

The aim of Future Melbourne 2026 is to ensure Melbourne’s legacy as a liveable and competitive city over the coming decade. We’re inviting the community to share their ideas and vision for the future. The project will occur in three phases:

Phase 1: Share your ideas

From 1 February to 31 March 2016, we asked you to share your ideas for the city’s future in a range of face to face workshops, forums, seminars, and online. We also asked you to provide feedback on the vision and goals of the current community plan, Future Melbourne (2008), by taking our survey.

Phase 2: Bringing your ideas together

In April 2016, we will bring together all of your ideas, compare them to the Future Melbourne goals from 2008, and publish this in a comprehensive report on our website.

Phase 3: Deliberation

From May to June 2016, a group of randomly selected community members will be invited to join a citizen’s jury to work together to refresh Future Melbourne using the ideas shared in phase one.

Phase 4: Final Plan

The Future Melbourne ambassadors will present the refreshed plan to Council in August 2016.

Future Melbourne ambassadors

We have appointed six ambassadors to represent the community for the duration for the Future Melbourne 2026 project. The role of the ambassadors is to:

  1. Ensure that Future Melbourne 2026 is a genuine expression of the community's collective ideas for the future of Melbourne.
  2. Ensure that the process of engagement is inclusive, widely accessible and interactive.
  3. Represent and promote the process for developing the plan within community.
