Amendment C278: Sunlight to public parks to be considered at Future Melbourne Committee

January 31, 2020

Amendment C278: Sunlight to public parks will be considered at the Future Melbourne Committee meeting on Tuesday 4 February 2020.

Council will request the Minister for Planning appoint a Panel to consider the submissions and make recommendations on the amendment. On this occasion, the majority of Councillors have indicated that they have a conflict of interest and will need to leave the Tuesday 4 February meeting in line with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1989.

Amendment C278 introduces three park categories with different requirements for each type, with the recommendation for sunlight protection from 10am to 3pm. The last review of this amendment was in 1999 and since then the city has experienced an increase in development and population growth, which has increased pressure on public spaces.
