Mid-year update on Arden Street riding lanes

July 17, 2025

We’re working to deliver protected riding lines along Arden Street, connecting the dots in our cycling network in North Melbourne.

Since February this year, we have been constructing new cycling infrastructure along Arden Street, from Moonee Ponds Creek to Dryburgh Street – having completed works from Wreckyn Street/Chetwynd Street to Dryburgh Street late last year.

The final section to be completed is the north side of Arden Street, between Langford and Laurens Street.

Earlier this year, Melbourne Water made us aware of underground services they have in this small section of Arden Street. Construction has been temporarily paused while we work closely with them to ensure our new riding lanes don't impede their access requirements. We expect to be back on site in the coming months to complete these works and finalise this new, protected cycling corridor along Arden Street.

As these final sections of Arden Street near completion, we plan to evaluate the project for any post-implementation changes to the design based on community feedback. This could include additional signage, line marking, green surface treatment and additional community updates as needed.

Once works are completed, we’ll continue to monitor traffic flow and commuter activity along Arden Street and in North Melbourne more broadly, to ensure that everyone can move through the area safely and efficiently.
