Application to Heritage Victoria for additional lighting in Carlton Gardens North

April 17, 2024

As part of the Carlton Gardens Master Plan implementation, City of Melbourne plans to install additional lighting in Carlton Gardens North.

We have submitted an application to Heritage Victoria for a permit to carry out this work.

The proposed new lighting follows community feedback gathered when preparing the Master Plan in 2022.

The permit application is to:

  • Install new park lights along the north-east path from the tennis club to the corner of Carlton and Nicholson streets
  • Provide additional general lawn lighting to improve the playground, ball court and picnic areas, so they can be used for longer periods, particularly in winter.

  • The general lawn lighting will be programmed to turn off before 10pm.

Permit application signs will be in the gardens from 17 April until 1 May. Submissions on the plans can be made to Heritage Victoria during this time.
