The City of Melbourne is exploring ways to grow and improve Chapman Street Reserve.

We’re proposing to expand the reserve by repurposing and consolidating roads, providing more open space for the community to enjoy, while maintaining existing traffic flow.

The Chapman Street Reserve Expansion project is a key outcome of City of Melbourne's Open Space Strategy, contributing to Council’s Major Initiative 16: Increase the amount of public open space in the municipality with a focus on areas of greatest need.

The expansion project aims to:

  • Increase open space in the area for the local community to enjoy.
  • Utilise the surrounding road and parking areas to support a larger green space that will encourage more nature into the area.

Feedback on the proposal was open from 15 April to 13 May 2024. See what we heard on the community consultation page.

Feedback we heard will be used to inform the draft concept design, which will be presented for a second phase of consultation later this year.
