Habitat mapping results available

December 17, 2020

The results from our Citizen Forester habitat mapping events are now available.

Melbourne's urban forest plays an important role in supporting biodiversity in our city. As you may be aware as trees age, they can develop hollows and cracks that provide shelter for a range of animals, including birds and bats.

Last year many of you were involved in identifying tree hollows in Fawkner Park and with your continued effort we were able to collect data for every single tree! We’ve published a map that shows you each individual tree and whether or not it has a hollow. You can find the results on the Habitat tree inventory page.

We are currently in the process of ensuring all the necessary procedures are in place to make sure our 2021 events meet COVID Safe guidelines. Our hope is that we will be able to have events up and running again in autumn.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.
