How the arts are supporting smart city conversations

May 15, 2023

The latest Communicating City Sensing project amplifies local stories through creative storytelling to help us explore the role of technology and data.

As part of Melbourne Design Week, the exhibition will be opened daily from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 May. City Stories is seven diverse creative pieces about the role technology and data plays in our city through the eyes of local artists.

The exhibition shares commissioned artworks from seven artists across multiple media types; painting, animation, social media videos, interactive works, mapping and more.

Visit the exhibition and explore why we use sensor technology and how it might be relevant to your experiences of the city. A key outcome is to collect community feedback to inform our future projects.

You can also join a panel discussion on Wednesday 17 May from 5.30pm, featuring the artists sharing how they’ve included community voices in their works. All are welcome, bookings required. Book now.

An online version of the exhibition will be shared in June.

City Stories features work by Caitlyn O’Brien (she/her), Sami Jenkins (she/her), Moonis Ahmad (he/him), Emma Ismawi (she/her), Tommi Parish (they/them), Benjamin Thomson (he/him) and Xen Nhà (they/them).

The exhibition is at No Vacancy Gallery, 34-40 Jane Bell Lane, Melbourne. It is presented in English, Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese.
