An exhibition about sensor stories

May 15, 2023

This Melbourne Design Week event explores creative storytelling to have community conversations about technology and data.

From Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 May, City Stories, a Melbourne Design Week exhibition invites you to enjoy seven diverse creative pieces that explores the role of technology and data in our city.

As part of our ongoing Communicating City Sensing practice, we’ve been collaborating with artists and community members to trial creative storytelling and community co-design to connect stories about sensors and data with issues and ideas that affect our community.

This exhibition featuring paintings, animation, social media videos, interactive works, mapping and more explores why we use sensor technology and how it might be relevant to your experiences of the city. It will also collect community feedback to help inform our future projects.

A panel discussion launching the exhibition on 17 May from 5.30pm is also available and explores how artists have included community voices in their works. All are welcome to attend, bookings required. Book now.

An online version of the exhibition will be shared in June.

City Stories features work by Caitlyn O’Brien (she/her), Sami Jenkins (she/her), Moonis Ahmad (he/him), Emma Ismawi (she/her), Tommi Parish (they/them), Benjamin Thomson (he/him) and Xen Nhà (they/them).
