Fishermans Bend Place Naming Framework to be considered by Council

24 February 2026

The Future Melbourne Committee (FMC) will consider the Fishermans Bend Place Namin Framework on 3 March 2026.

The final framework has been shaped by feedback we received over 2 phases of community consultation, including 119 responses from the community. You can find a summary of our latest phase of consultation on our community consultation page.

We made changes to the final framework based on what we heard during the final phase of consultation, including:

  • emphasising the importance of educational information to support new place names (for example providing name meanings and pronunciation on signage)
  • specifying the ability to periodically review approved names in Fishermans Bend to ensure there is representation of all naming themes
  • making edits to wording and graphics to improve the usability of the document.

We have also captured place names suggested during consultation in an internal database for consideration in future place naming.
