Melbourne has always been a water city, with low lying areas prone to flooding. As the city becomes more densely populated, it is also becoming more prone to floods. Flood mapping helps us understand where flooding is expected so we can make better planning decisions today.

City of Melbourne is working with Melbourne Water to ensure all areas of our city have the most up-to-date flood maps. The maps will inform an update to our planning scheme and ensure all new developments are designed for flood. We use the best data and tools to build our flood maps – but local knowledge will help make them even better.
