City of Melbourne hackathon event

Would you like to help create the vision for Melbourne’s future? Are you interested in how emerging technologies are going to shape the way we work, play, learn and interact with each other? Do you have an idea of how they can aid Melbourne’s digital future?

Share your big idea for the future of Melbourne in a fun and interactive way and join the conversation on Future Melbourne 2026.

Melbourne is entering new frontiers into the realm of superfast broadband, the Internet of Things, the Internet of Services and widening deployment of Artificial Intelligence. It is a growing city, faced with a number of local and global trends. How the city embraces these trends, could be decided by you.

Future Melbourne Digital City Hack 2016 is an innovative ideas-jam, designed to provide you with an opportunity to shape the future of the city you love. We will spend the day delving into our imaginations, creatively envisioning the future, discussing and exploring key issues, challenges and opportunities affecting Melbourne’s future as a leading city.

Groups of up to six people will work to refine a vision for their preferred future using design thinking and strategic foresight tools that are used in the start-up and creative industries to incubate new ideas. At the end of the session your team will ‘pitch’ your idea to the panel (and the public) with $6000 worth of prizes (including cash for the winners!) for the winning ideas and spot prizes throughout the day. The ideas that emerge at the event will form part of the 10 year Future Melbourne plan that will chart the direction for the city to 2026 and beyond.

Abraham Lincoln once said “the best way to predict your future is to create it”. What will you create for Melbourne and your future?

This is a free event but registration is necessary. You can create your teams beforehand or form a team with people you meet at the launch evening on Friday 18, 5pm to 6:30 pm. The Design Hack follows on Saturday 19 March from 10am to 6pm. Attendance is required on both days.

This event is for everyone that is passionate about their city , whether you are 18 or 80 and consider Melbourne as your home (even if it’s only for now!)

This event will be facilitated by both BlueChilli (a leading start-up accelerator) and Marketing Entourage (a team of creative future thinkers) in collaboration with the City of Melbourne.
