Mid-year update: Greenline Project at Birrarung Marr

August 4, 2025

We’re making great progress on the Greenline Project at Birrarung Marr.

Since March, crews have been working hard to deliver 450 metres of new connected boardwalks, promenades and walkways along Birrarung Marr.

This has included:

  • completing the piling works needed to install the boardwalks along the river’s edge
  • installing the boardwalk structure
  • finishing the demolition works
  • clearing the riverbank to prepare for landscaping
  • building the new garden beds
  • cutting down the steel sea wall
  • installing electrical, communications and irrigation services.

In the coming weeks, we’ll continue with building the boardwalk structure, gardening and landscaping works and earthworks to prepare for the new walkways and seating areas.

Works on this first stage of the Greenline Project are on track to be finished by the end of this year. Once works are complete, the river’s edge at Birrarung Marr will be transformed with new promenades, boardwalks and native flora to attract wildlife.
