The conversation

In February 2024, we asked the community to provide feedback on the MacKenzie Street Greening proposal.

This proposal included a new 400-square-metre park, additional trees, the introduction of biodiverse garden plantings, and reduced pedestrian crossing widths for improved safety at intersections.

This would create a new small park and streetscape improvements for the local community to enjoy.

The community was provided with the MacKenzie Street Greening proposal as well as Frequently Asked Questions providing additional details.

Community engagement on the MacKenzie Street Greening proposal ran from 12 February 2024 to 11 March 2024.

Impact

Your views were compiled by independent data analysts and presented back as a Community Engagement analysis summary report.

We will use the feedback gained from the MacKenzie Street Greening proposal community engagement process to refine the design.

We will share the refined design via Participate Melbourne in mid-2025.

Next steps

Council will now commence a road discontinuance process (refer to FAQs on the project overview page) to formally discontinue the roadway to create a small urban park at the Victoria Street end of MacKenzie Street. Access to and from MacKenzie Street will be maintained.

All residents within the road discontinuance area and relevant authorities will be contacted as part of the road discontinuance process.

To stay up to date, please visit the project web page where you can follow to receive project updates.

We thank everyone for their time and contribution to this project.
