June 6, 2024

Applications for the community meals subsidy program can be submitted through City of Melbourne's SmartyGrants portal from 1 July.

Some of the key criteria has changed so see if your community group qualifies.

Community Meals Subsidy 2025

  • Subsidy remains at $6 per meal
  • Level of public liability insurance has been reduced from $20 million to $10 million
  • Funding is based on the average number of participants at a usual group meeting, up to a maximum of 140 per session
  • Grant amount is calculated using average attendance across a maximum of 12 meal sessions. Funding can be used across more sessions if needed to ensure the total number of funded meals are delivered
  • Sessions must take place within the City of Melbourne or a minimum of 80% of participants must be City of Melbourne residents if the program is outside of the municipality.
  • Majority of participants in the program must be aged 55 and over

In line with previous years, applicants must provide evidence of valid public liability insurance. It is the responsibility of community groups to secure this insurance.
