Social Spaces chair on Drummond Street, Carlton

April 29, 2024

We’re delivering a new shelter over the ‘Social Spaces chair’ on Drummond Street in Carlton. Informed by community data and research, this new design will provide a cool place for visitors and the community on sunny days.

Install of the shade structure is expected to take place in June, with preliminary works starting in May. Works will take place on the median strip between 314 - 318 Drummond Street in Carlton. The hours of work are 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, subject to weather conditions.

You can expect the following while works are underway:

  • Traffic controllers will be on-site to guide pedestrians, car drivers and bike riders safely around the work zone.
  • A full road closure on the east side of Drummond Street – access to buildings and driveways will be maintained at all times.
  • Access for residential vehicles may be impacted – please speak to the traffic controllers on-site if you require access.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • There will be noise and dust from machinery during the hours of work.
  • To ensure the area is clear for works to be undertaken safely, some parking signs will be temporarily changed to ‘authorised council contractors excepted’.
  • Please check the signs when you park – vehicles parked in areas with ‘authorised council contractors excepted’ parking signs may be issued an infringement notice.
  • The traffic and parking changes may be in place up to 24 hours before works start.
