FareShare Library Feeds program launches

July 26, 2024

Healthy frozen meals are now available for people to take during opening hours in the foyer at Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre.

Born from the success of City of Melbourne's Local Lunch Club program, the initiative aims to support community members experiencing food insecurity or struggling with the cost of living.

The program is run in partnership with not-for-profit organisation FareShare, whose mission is to cook delicious, free meals from rescued, donated and homegrown ingredients to improve the lives of Australians in hardship. It is anticipated that this will be a meaningful addition to the community space and provide much-needed support to those who need it.

Useful information

  • The purpose is to support community members in need by providing easy access to nutritious meals in a location that is welcoming, free from stigma, and open to everyone.
  • Community members can take up to two meals at a time, per day. There are halal, vegetarian and other options available.
  • Community can't donate to the freezer themselves, as it's stocked exclusively by FareShare to ensure food safety and quality.
