Background

In 2012, the City of Melbourne became the first local government in Australia to develop and adopt a Food Policy.

Recent challenges, such as extreme weather, global events and the rising cost of living has demonstrated the fragility of our food system and the need for a more localised and coordinated approach to food in our city. With these challenges in mind, City of Melbourne is refreshing our Food Policy.

Following stakeholder and community consultation in 2023, we have developed a draft food policy titled, Food City 2024-34 for community feedback. We want Food City 2024-2034 to provide good food for all now and into the future.
