Neighbourhood Circle Historical Walking Tour

Join us on a unique walking tour around Melbourne’s most historic precinct and discover the rich history and cultural significance of this area. This site has been a gathering place for First Nations people for many thousands of years, and the Birrarung, also known as the Yarra River, played a vital role in the lives of the Eastern Kulin people who lived in the area prior to colonisation. The tour will take you on a journey through time, as you explore the site of a natural waterfall that once acted as a filtration system for the Birrarung, separating fresh water from the salty waters of Port Phillip Bay. You will also discover the fascinating history of the Old Customs House, which is now home to the Immigration Museum.

Choose from two convenient tour times: Saturday March 25 from 12.15pm or Wednesday April 5 from 12.15pm – both with a 12.30pm tour start.

For the Saturday March 25 tour, please meet at the front of the Museum on Flinders Street where the picnic tables are (as the African Music and Cultural Festival is taking place in the courtyard).

For the Wednesday April 5 tour, please meet at the rear courtyard of the Immigration Museum. The tour will run for 1 hour.

Don't miss this opportunity to discover the fascinating history and cultural significance of Melbourne’s most historic precinct.

Bookings are essential.

The tour is brought to you by the Neighbourhood Circle in partnership with the Immigration Museum. The Neighbourhood Circle is a community-led action group working together to revitalise a once neglected, and now rapidly transforming part of the CBD, to discover and reimagine new ways to live, work and play in this area.
