Local artists bring city stories to life

May 15, 2023

Check out this multi-media exhibition in Jane Bell Lane and share your thoughts.

As part of this year’s Melbourne Design Week, City Stories invites you to experience seven diverse creative pieces that explore the role technology and data play in our city. Launching on 17 May, this exhibition will open daily from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 May.

Conversations across the city revealed safety, accessible places for social connection and taking care of the environment to be important issues for our community. With these voices in mind, seven artists created this exhibition that explores how sensors, technology and data can help address these city issues.

The exhibition - paintings, animation, social media videos, interactive works, mapping and more – invites visitors to consider and contribute to how sensors and data can help our city adapt and meet the needs of communities now and in the future.

Data collected during the exhibition will guide how we work with community to drive understanding of why we use sensors in the city.

An online version of the exhibition will be shared in June. Follow the Emerging Technology Testbed to stay up to date.

City Stories features work by Caitlyn O’Brien (she/her), Sami Jenkins (she/her), Moonis Ahmad (he/him), Emma Ismawi (she/her), Tommi Parish (they/them), Benjamin Thomson (he/him) and Xen Nhà (they/them).
