This is an informative briefing on the City of Melbourne’s Zero Carbon Buildings program, the role of embodied carbon and circular economy and the tools, data and initiatives being developed for building owners, investors and managers.

City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp, and Slattery’s National Director of Carbon Planning, Tom Dean, will discuss the importance of embodied carbon and why refurbishing existing buildings and extending their life is the most effective strategy to minimise upfront embodied carbon.

James Elks, from the National Australia Building Energy Rating System (NABERS) will also discuss why we must tackle embodied carbon now, and how they are developing a national framework that will help industry to measure, verify and compare embodied carbon in buildings.

This will be followed by a panel discussion with MECLA, GBCA, Slattery and NABERS.
