New temporary pocket park installed at Yanonung Quay

June 6, 2023

A short-term action from the Docklands Summit is to deliver immediate beautification across Docklands to lift the quality of the space through greening. The City of Melbourne has started to work on this, with 10 planter boxes which were underutilised in the city, being recently relocated to New Quay Promenade and Harbour Esplanade.

We have also been working with the Metro Tunnel Creative Program to re-home their award-winning Albert Road Reserve pocket park to Yanonung Quay in Docklands.

This temporary pocket park will provide additional landscaping and seating options for visitors and ferry patrons to enjoy waterside views, and space to grab a coffee and admire the Cow Up A Tree artwork.

Yanonung Quay’s central location and visible prominence on Harbour Esplanade makes it a pivotal area for immediate greening improvement.

Installation of the modular pocket park commenced this week to ensure it is ready to be used in time for Firelight Festival on 30 June 2023.

The parklet has been donated to the City of Melbourne by Metro Tunnel Creative Program and installation is funded by the Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund, a partnership between the Victorian Government and City of Melbourne.
