Repurposing waste in Fishermans Bend gardens

February 6, 2023

Our raingardens in the city filter and manage the flow of local rainwater, help to avoid flooding and enable growth of plants and healthy habitats for animals. Fishermans Bend is a low-lying area particularly prone to flooding and Melbourne’s oldest innovation precinct. This is where we’re innovating and trialing raingardens made from 100% upcycled materials.

The project team have been testing materials in a nursery, completing lab tests and designing prototype gardens to continue their testing on-site on Turner Street in Fishermans Bend.

You can follow the process to hear how different waste materials like street sweepings, food waste and crushed brick compare.

This project is an Emerging Technology Testbed project. Follow @remixraingardens on Instagram for behind-the-scenes footage.
