Thousands flock to Melbourne for Lions International Convention

June 21, 2024

Business operators in Docklands can expect an influx of visitors as around 12,000 Lions and Leo members and participants from 160 countries and regions come together for the membership service organisation’s international convention 21-25 June.

One of the largest international conventions taking place in Melbourne this year, the Lions International Convention is expected to deliver $68 million to the local economy supporting the city’s restaurants, retailers, attractions, and will account over 24,000 hotel room nights.

This year Melbourne will play host to the major convention that will transform the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre into bustling hub and cultural mosaic. As the global network of volunteers connect and learn from each other, a range of experts will address attendees about how they can take action to tackle the issues in their communities.

Kicking-off with The Parade of Nations on Saturday 22 June 2024, thousands of Lions members from every corner of the globe will gather along the Kings Domain in a street parade north on Birdwood Avenue, to honour a year of boundless service and showcase the rich tapestry of their diverse cultures, traditions, and talents.

Organised by Lions International in conjunction with the Host Organising Committee comprised of members from Lion clubs across Victoria and Australia, thousands of visitors are expected to frequent tourist hotspots enjoying Melbourne’s hospitality, food, wine and shopping.
