Free coffee at our first circular economy precinct in Kensington

November 13, 2024

Buy a new Huskee keep-cup from participating cafes in Kensington, our first circular economy precinct and get up to four free coffees from 19 November.

Starting your day with a barista-made coffee is great for the local economy. If you get it from a Kensington Circular Economy Precinct café, you can avoid leaving unnecessary waste behind.

You could stop in at a café that uses The Udder Way’s milk dispensing system, which replaces single-use milk cartons with reusable kegs. Or you could opt into the HuskeeSwap program, letting you buy a takeaway coffee in a reusable Huskee cup and swap it for a fresh one the next time you stop by.

About the Circular Economy Precinct

Kensington is officially home to City of Melbourne’s first Circular Economy Precinct.

As part of its efforts to promote city-wide circular practices, we launched the Kensington Circular Economy Precinct program in March 2024. The program offers participating businesses the tools they need to use circular practices.

The program has funded a range of circular initiatives, including:

  • reusable milk keg systems for local cafés
  • swap systems for reusable coffee cups and takeaway containers
  • access to recycling streams for hard-to-recycle materials (like soft plastics and organics)
  • community-led and operated compost network and repair hub.
