New zebra pedestrian crossings for Kensington

January 10, 2023

The City of Melbourne will shortly be installing two new zebra pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Epsom Road and Market Street. The works will include:

  • A new raised zebra pedestrian crossing across Epsom Road – just east of Market Street;
  • A new at-grade zebra pedestrian crossing across Market Street – with a new road hump installed in Market Street to slow motorists as they approach the new crossing.
  • A new pedestrian refuge island and footpath widening in Epsom Road – just west of Market Street - to reduce vehicle turning speeds and improve overall pedestrian safety.

These works will improve the safety and comfort of pedestrians crossing both streets, by providing pedestrian priority over motor vehicles. In particular, these improvements aim to improve pedestrian connections for the local community to walk to and from Newmarket Shopping Plaza and Kensington Primary School.
