Neighbourhood Survey 2024 next steps backed by Council

September 13, 2024

At a recent Future Melbourne Committee meeting, Council heard in-depth analysis of our recent Neighbourhood Survey and supported using the results to build the next Council Plan 2025-29.

It also backed exploring new partnerships with community, businesses and government to advance the neighbourhood priorities identified in the survey.

The survey, which was held over March and April this year, saw 4424 people respond to questions about priorities in their neighbourhoods for the next four years.

Across all 10 neighbourhoods, the top community priorities are:

  • Affordable housing and homelessness support
  • More plants, trees and open spaces
  • Better roads, paths, public transport and parking
  • Cleaner streets, waste and graffiti removal
  • Localised creative and cultural events to connect community

  • These in-depth findings are in addition to high-level survey results shared earlier this year in June.

    In-depth analysis

Affordable housing and homelessness support emerged as a top priority in the CBD, Carlton, North Melbourne, East Melbourne and South Yarra. It is also the lead priority for people with a disability, LGBTQIA+ communities, multicultural communities, women and younger people.

More parks, trees and clean streets are a higher priority for older people and people who have lived in the City of Melbourne for longer. More plants, trees and improved open spaces was the top priority in Docklands, Southbank and West Melbourne. Better roads, paths, public transport and parking was the top priority in Parkville and Kensington.
