Infrastructure upgrade works – Macaulay Road and Stubbs Street precinct

July 21, 2025

From Monday 14 July to Friday 26 September works will be taking place to upgrade stormwater and drainage infrastructure around Macaulay Road and Stubbs Street.

Metro Civil is undertaking drainage works in Macaulay Road on behalf of a private developer, while Citywide is undertaking drainage works at the intersection of Stubbs Street and Macaulay Road on behalf of City of Melbourne.

This part of North Melbourne is undergoing considerable development as part of the Macaulay urban renewal area, and these works are important to ensure essential infrastructure is upgraded to meet growing community needs. The works will deliver new underground stormwater drains, new catchment pits to convey storm water run-off, and road reinstatement.

Traffic management personnel will be on-site daily to assist residents and help minimise disruption.

For more information including work hours and locations, visit the City of Melbourne's website.

Any queries about these works should be directed to Metro Civil on 1300 65 66 90.

How could this impact you?
While every effort is being made to minimise disruption and inconvenience, the following can be expected:

  • Longer travel times and additional traffic on local streets due to the works and detours in place.
  • During the works some parking spaces will be acquired to enable the works to proceed and to allow our contractors to store materials and machines.
  • There will be construction noise and some dust from machinery and construction vehicles for periods of time during the working hours.
  • Residential vehicle access may be impacted for brief periods (liaise with traffic controllers if required).
  • Parking signs will be changed within 24 hours prior to construction work starting to ensure the area is clear for the necessary works to be undertaken.
  • The temporary parking signs will state ‘Authorised Council Contractors Excepted’.
  • A reserved parking permit is a special permit issued during construction on occasion. Please note that standard resident or other parking permits cannot be used. Any vehicles parked in the area that do not have a reserved parking permit displayed after the parking signs have been changed may be issued an infringement notice.
  • The 402 bus is still running via the detour, but impacts expected to journey times.
