Works at Buncle Street Reserve

June 30, 2025

City of Melbourne will soon undertake works at Buncle Street Reserve to help inform future planning.

Buncle Street Reserve is the grass oval area next to North Melbourne Community Centre.

Works will start in mid-July 2025 and are expected to be completed by mid-August 2025.

What’s happening?

Crews will be on site digging into the ground to assess soil, water, underground services, sewers, stormwater drains and utility pits.

Changes to access

For safety reasons, the reserve and playground will be closed intermittently while digging works take place. We expect around five closure days over the four-week period, depending on soil conditions and weather. Signs will be in place.

What to expect while works are underway

  • The hours of work are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
  • Some noise is expected during work hours, particularly during drilling and hammering. Crews will make every effort to minimise disruption.
  • Drilling may generate some dust. Crews will have controls in place to minimise its spread as much as possible.
  • Temporary fencing, bollards and tape will be installed around the work zone. For your safety, please keep out of fenced areas and follow directions onsite.
  • Roughly four car park bays on surrounding streets will be temporarily occupied by equipment and machinery at different times throughout the four-week period.
  • Traffic access on surrounding streets will be maintained at all times.
  • Access to North Melbourne Community Centre will be maintained at all times.
