Would you like to participate in the development of a movie script?

Are you interested in acting and would like exposure to the craft?

Melbourne FilmLab, a community group of aspiring filmmakers, will be holding Table Reads of screenplays currently being drafted by members.

What is table read?

A table read is an organised reading of a screenplay in which the speaking parts, stage directions and scene headings are read out loud. They are an essential part of the script development and writing process, as writers use them as an opportunity to fine tune their stories, sharpen their dialogue, and make other necessary adjustments. The parts are usually read by actors and provide an opportunity to practice the acting craft, including reading and interpreting text. As they are often done with little preparation, they also great audition practice.

What will happen at the event?

At this free community event, participants will meet emerging screenwriters and aspiring actors and filmmakers. Participants will be randomly assigned a table and a screenwriter and, in small groups (6-8 people) will read their scripts out loud around the table. You will be invited to (respectfully) provide feedback and offer ideas to improve their work.

Participants will also enjoy a light lunch and refreshments and afterwards, will be invited to read/perform live a 10-15 minute excerpt from their screenplays in front of the entire group.

Who is this for?

If you have ever considered being an actor or a filmmaker, this is a great opportunity to participate in the creative process for a movie. No experience necessary, just an ability to read. An interest in acting and/or filmmaking is definitely encouraged.

The event will be recorded for writers' reference and for possible future promotional purposes.
