Imagining our Future

Presented by Sustainability Victoria

In an increasingly short-term world facing significant challenges on the horizon, the art of thinking long-term is more critical than ever. However, many people struggle to apply this mindset in their daily lives. Imagining Our Future is an educational event organized by Sustainability Victoria to help participants learn about future thinking in a creative and interactive environment, alongside experts in foresight.

Over the past year, Sustainability Victoria has been working on foresight, building capabilities in methodologies designed specifically to promote long-term thinking. They aim to share some of their learnings with attendees and provide an opportunity for them to think about the long-term future as well.

According to Sustainability Victoria, major issues of our time, such as inequality, conflict, and climate change, require solutions that extend beyond the short-term. While strategic planning and forecasting can be helpful, they tend to lose their impact when looking beyond five years. Futures and foresight thinking, however, hold the promise of enabling exploration of multiple potential futures, so individuals, organizations, and governments can make better strategic decisions today to help bring us closer to our desired future tomorrow.

At the event, participants will have the opportunity to discuss potential future scenarios with peers, view community visions of the future brought to life with AI, and create their own artifact from the future at the Futures Bazaar. They can also provide input into Sustainability Victoria’s futures and foresight work.
