Open Innovation Competition Winners

Six finalists pitched their ideas at the Open Innovation Challenge Pitch Night, with the following winners announced:

Top three cash prizes
Courtesy of the City of Melbourne, a cash pool of $30,000 was divided among the top three submissions.

  • 1st prize: $20,000 – Can-i-Park by Sam Pinner
  • 2nd prize: $7,000 – Project Nightlight by Jasmine Subrata, Simon Dall & Dane Smith
  • 3rd prize: $3,000 – She’s a Crowd by Zoe Condliffe and Tess Guthrie


Winner of the international prize
Courtesy of the City of Melbourne there is one ‘International Prize’ winner who has won a trip to Bandung, Indonesia for a week-long curated program with The Greater Hub at Bandung Institute of Technology and the City of Bandung. Flights from Melbourne to Jakarta, train to Bandung and accommodation in Bandung are fully-paid.

Winners of the MAP Velocity Program prize
Two of the top five submissions (as selected by Melbourne Accelerator Program) were accepted into MAP’s 2019 Velocity program, an early stage startup incubator.

Winners of CQ University Social Innovation Studio prize
Placement in CQ University’s three-day residential Social Innovation Workshop in Melbourne. Participants will work in a collaborative model with a partner organisation to develop skills in design-thinking, action research and human-centred design. Prize includes a three day program, training materials and some meals (total value $1,600).

Winner of the Accenture Digital Studio prize
One of the top submissions pitched (as selected by Accenture) has been provided an opportunity to have a dialogue with Accenture’s Melbourne digital studio. This studio seeks to co-create, innovate and apply the latest digital technologies to develop and deliver disruptive innovations for clients, and to scale them faster.
The team from the selected submission will be given the opportunity to gain support and mentorship from experts from the studio in capabilities to help progress their idea – this could include capabilities ranging from digital strategy, experience design, business model development, creative ideation/content and applying leading digital technologies.
