A diverse group of Parkville Gardens residents came together for fun and frivolity at the trivia night

With Parkville Gardens having a growing and diverse population, the PGRA felt a trivia night would appeal to both younger and older residents.

'We want more residents to realise that they belong to an active, dynamic and engaged community,' said Faye Ryan, Secretary of the PGRA.

The night’s emcee Marc (Sparx) Wilson, of The Original Bingo & Trivia Company, said he relished the opportunity to help reconnect people after the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Using humour, banter and a bit of silliness, Sparx helped break the ice so that the trivia buffs – many of whom arrived not knowing anyone at their table – quickly began mingling.

The diversity of the crowd made the night even more fun, with such a range in age and culture, said Sparx.

According to Faye, the trivia teams with the greatest diversity also seemed to have a competitive advantage, as they had the broadest range of general knowledge.

More than 50 residents attended the event, which was held at the Reggio Calabria Club, and funded by a City of Melbourne Connected Communities Grant.

Faye says Carlo Pavia from Reggio Calabria Club, was also instrumental in ensuring the night was a success, catering a delicious 3-course meal for guests.

Reggio Calabria Club has been a long-time supporter of the PGRA, providing a venue for meetings and events, said Faye.

The trivia night was one of a series of PGRA events that aim to support the mental, social and psychological wellbeing of Parkville Gardens residents.

Faye joined the PGRA to give back to her community, after moving to Parkville Gardens in late 2015.

Sparx ended the trivia night on that same note, encouraging everyone leaving to 'reach out to someone else and make a connection'.

The PGRA want to accurately represent their diverse local community, and are particularly keen to hear ideas from younger residents.
