Draft Vision for Royal Park South:

Royal Park South is bounded by Macarthur Road and Elliott Avenue to the west and north, Gatehouse Street to the east, and Flemington Road to the south. It also borders the Royal Children’s Hospital. The area is split by the tram line, and while there are east-west pedestrian crossings, there are no tram stops in this part of the park.

The area is home to key destinations including Nature Play, Grassland Circle and the Australian Native Garden.

What we heard in 2023

We heard that over 55% of people visit this area for walking.

Over 900 people visit this area to walk around the grassland circle every day.

NaturePlay gets over 3000 uses in the summer months.

Intercept surveys over the last 3 years identified the need for shade over the existing picnic and BBQ areas.

Priority projects for this area:

Walkability

Improving path connections to and from designations.

Improved lighting

Strategic path lighting between key roads and public transport stops.

Exploration

Providing opportunities for exploration trails.

Play

Expanding play opportunities around nature play, adding multi use courts and adding an additional tennis court at North Park tennis club.
