City of Melbourne is delivering essential upgrades to our Safe City Camera Program (SCCP) as part of our commitment to improving safety and amenity in our city.

As part of the first phase of improvements, we're proposing to update the Safe City Camera Policy. The policy has been drafted to address all local laws and regulations, including issues that you have told us are important to you through previous community engagement or through feedback and complaints made to the City of Melbourne. We know there are some groups we hear from less on these issues, and where possible we will be trying to hear their voices too.

Before completing this survey, learn more about the Safe City Camera Program, read the draft policy and understand what’s changing.

What we're consulting on

We're seeking your feedback to guide how the policy is implemented, communicated and monitored to reflect what matters most to you. It will also guide our ongoing approach to improving the Safe City Cameras. We want to hear your priorities, concerns and if there is anything more we could be doing.

Specifically, we’d like to hear from you on the following:

  • Overall sentiment on the new Safe City Camera Policy, namely its proposed scope and how we manage personal data.
  • Which local law or amenity-related concerns you’re most concerned about, to see how the proposed changes align with community attitudes and to potentially guide future updates to the policy.
  • Any additional issues or concerns that you believe could be addressed by the SCCP.
  • How easy the Safe City Camera Policy is to understand.

Consultation closes Wednesday 29 October 2025.
